Dr Robert Stonestreet - Biography

Dr Robert Stonestreet began studying the horn with Campbell Barnes whilst growing up on the family farm in rural NSW, before undertaking a Bachelor of Music with Honours year at The University of Newcastle with Geoff O’Reilly of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. This was followed by a Masters of Music at Baylor University in the USA with Jeffrey Powers.

Upon returning to Australia, Robert undertook a PhD at The University of Tasmania, researching the development of low horn technique and repertoire. His PhD research resulted in the presentation of several lectures at the International Horn Symposium and at the Historic Brass Society’s Early Brass Festival, as well as publication in The Horn Call. Whilst based in Hobart, Robert also completed an Associate Diploma in Music through the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) and played with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

He currently holds a full-time position in the New South Wales Police Band and works as a freelance musician and teacher, performing regularly in solo, chamber and orchestral settings, such as the The Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the The Metropolitan Orchestra and the Southern Cross Symphony.
